Thrift store computing
Thrift store computing is my less-radical more-practical take on Permacomputing. It acknowledges that in current society computers are actually plentiful not some scarce resource. This will (probably) be also true in post-collapse situation.
principles
- use devices that you already have
- use existing software
challenges
- old devices are in unknown state, you need some skills to diagnose them
- you often need to reinstall computers before using it
off the grid computing
Some old computers works just fine, but they are not usable because they are not compatible anymore with modern tech. It's good idea to treat them like they were off the grid photovoltaics system.
